The Midterms: What Election Week Means for Your Business
October 30, 2026
Midterm elections are occurring amid steadily rising incidents of political violence. Sentinel assesses that widespread, sustained violence is unlikely, but localized disruption and targeted threats are likely. For businesses, three areas carry the most exposure.
1. Polling sites and office access
Polling stations are flashpoints. On Election Day 2024, multiple sites received hoax bomb threats. AI tools could now amplify the volume beyond what officials are used to handling. The real or perceived presence of ICE agents at polling stations may also draw protests. Corporate offices near polling sites or in contested districts could face evacuations, lockdowns, road closures and restricted access.
- Identify facilities near polling stations or in battleground districts.
- Consider remote work on Election Day and review evacuation procedures.
- Follow local election authorities for real-time threat notifications.
2. Politically exposed executives
Violence against executives has risen alongside political violence. Executives face a HIGH threat of targeted threats and doxing, particularly if they or their company are seen as politically aligned. A high-profile attack on a candidate could push aggrieved individuals toward symbolic corporate targets instead.
- Check whether executives or employees have been doxed and reduce their personal information online.
- Limit political content on official and executive channels.
- Refresh or deploy social media training.
3. The tech sector
AI, data center and election technology companies face a MEDIUM-HIGH threat of violence or online harassment. There have been 340 anti–data center protests across 42 states since 2025, 80% of them in 2026. Voting machine vendors are under renewed federal scrutiny, and their employees were doxed and harassed after previous elections.
- Monitor online sentiment, including campaign content that references your industry.
- Extend monitoring through certification, not just Election Day.
- Increase security postures through certification and re-evaluate security postures.
